We are developing new horticultural crops that focus on flavonoids, carotenoids, betalain pigments, etc. Using gene cloning, tissue culture, and genetic modification techniques, we aim to modify the biosynthetic pathways of these plant pigments and create high-value-added horticultural crops with enhanced ornamental value, environmental tolerance, and health-promoting functions. In addition to model plants such as tobacco and Lotus japonicus, our research subjects include ornamental flowers such as torenia, geranium, and japonica, and edible crops such as tomatoes and cucumbers.
