1.New entry into Japan from overseas? Updated
[IMPORTANT] Japanese government’s border control measures will be updated from October 11, 2022 as below.
- The Entrants, Returnees Follow-up Systems (ERFS) is no longer required when you will apply for a visa.
- “Short-Term Stay” visa exemption arrangements for nationals of countries listed on the website below will be resumed.
- Those who have received at least three vaccine doses recognized as valid by the Japanese government will not be required any of “pre-departure COVID-19 test”, “on-arrival COVID-19 test” and “self-quarantine after entry into Japan”.
- Those who do not have a valid vaccination certificate will be required to take a pre-departure COVID-19 test within 72 hours before your departure and submit its negative certificate when boarding the aircraft.

2.Re-entry of foreign nationals into Japan who possess a status of residence in Japan
Regarding entry and re-entry into Japan, epidemic prevention measures for COVID-19 are required for all travelers. Please refer MHLW website “Border measures to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19)” below for details.

Submission of International Student Temporary Departure from Japan Notification
If you plan on returning to your country temporarily, please be sure to submit the “International Student Temporary Departure from Japan Notification” in advance (you can submit this notification through Google Forms from the link below).

※ If you cannot submit the notification through Google Forms, please complete the "International Student Temporary Departure from Japan Notification (Excel version)" and submit it by e-mail to the Student Support Section of the department you belong to.
※ If you have already left Japan without submitting the "International Student Temporary Departure from Japan Notification", please submit it from the link above as soon as possible.
[Important] Currently, due to the spread of COVID-19, the government's restrictions on entry into Japan and epidemic prevention measures, etc. are frequently updated; and related responses frequently change as well. If there is an additional government announcement, etc., we may individually contact the students who have submitted the International Student Temporary Departure from Japan Notification and their supervisors about necessary measures, etc. Therefore, please do not forget to submit the notification.

When entering/re-entering Japan from overseas, all travelers are required to comply with the border measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 on the MHLW website below.

- Those boarder measures are required for all travelers, both new entry and re-entry students.

From October 11, 2022, the boarder measures for returnees and entrants arriving into Japan will be updated as following;
- Entrants / returnees who have a valid COVID-19 vaccination certificate of three doses of vaccination which meets requirements of the government of Japan (https://www.mhlw.go.jp/stf/covid-19/border_vaccine.html) will not be required to take a pre-departure COVID-19 test.
- Entrants / returnees who DO NOT have a valid COVID-19 vaccination certificate will be required to take a pre-departure COVID-19 test conducted within 72 hours prior to departure from the original country/region and present its negative test result certificate when boarding their flight to Japan.
- An on-arrival test and a self-quarantine will no longer be required except those who will have symptoms of suspected COVID-19 infection when they will arrive into Japan.
- Please be sure to check the latest boarder measures before your departure for Japan on the MHLW website above, since they are changed frequently.?

If you experience symptom(s) such as fever, cough or difficulty breathing, please take the following two actions. **Please take special care during the first 10 days after entry into Japan. **
1. Please seek diagnosis at a hospital.
If you do not know which hospital you can consult with, you can call to the Fever Consultation Center of the Tokyo metropolitan government below and ask for instructions.
* If you are having severe symptom(s) such as difficulty breathing, call "119" directly and call an ambulance. (Refer to the Fire and Disaster Management Agency website below for how to call an ambulance. Please look through the manual just for cases you may need it in future.)

If you have taken/will be taking a PCR/antigen test due to a suspected infection, etc., OR have contacted a person who have tested positive for COVID-19, OR yourself have tested positive for COVID-19, please immediately report to the University via the Google form below.
